Mohamad Fauzan Noordin earned his Ph.D. from the University of Wales, UK, in 1997. He also holds an MBA from Central Missouri State University, USA, obtained in 1991, and a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA, completed in 1989. He is a Professor in Knowledge Technology at the Kulliyyah of Information and Communication Technology and his book, ICT and Islam, is used as a textbook at several universities.
Over his career, which has spanned more than ten years, he has held many important positions. He is currently the Head of the ICT and Islam Research Cluster. He served as Dean of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies at the International Islamic University Malaysia from 2012 to 2013 and was a visiting scholar at the University of Bahrain (2004-2005) and Jazan University in Saudi Arabia (2010-2011). Since 2005, he has been a member of the research panel for the Research Grants Scheme at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, a panel member for the National Dakwah Policy of Malaysia (JAKIM), and a Senior Fellow at the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).
He was also the first Dean of the ICT Faculty at Al-Madinah International University Malaysia (2007-2008) and is a Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System (2012). He worked as a Lead IT Auditor at Obeikan Investment Group in Riyadh, KSA, in April 2013, and was the Principal Consultant for UMP ICT Strategic Planning from 2011 to 2013. He served on the Board of Advisors for K-Perak in 2013.
In previous roles, he was the Dean of the Office of Corporate Strategy and Quality Assurance (2011-2012), Director of the Centre for Collaborative Technology (2009-2010), Director for Information Technology Division at IIUM (2001-2004), Director of the Centre for IT Advancement (2004), and Director of the Centre for Excellence in Continuing Education E-Learning (C-ExCEL) (1999).
He was Co-Chairman of the Malaysian Association Information System (MyAis) from 2009 to 2010 and is currently the Deputy President of MyAis. His areas of expertise include Knowledge Technology, Management Information Systems (MIS), ICT and Islam, Social Networking, Cloud Computing, E-Banking, Knowledge Management, and Wisdom in ICT. He has published many articles in local and international journals.
His research on Multilingual Search Engine and Retrieval System won the Best Research Award at the university level in 2009 and two Silver Awards at the International Invention and Technology Exhibition in 2009. He is frequently invited to speak on ICT topics by TV and radio stations, as well as in newspapers.
He has spoken at international conferences in Canada and Taiwan on Grid Computing, Cloud Computing, and Information Technology. Notable speaking engagements include the System Quality Software Conference in Düsseldorf, Germany, in May 2006; JAIST for MALAYSIA-JAPAN on Advanced Technology in Information and Knowledge Sciences in Kanazawa, Japan, in 2013; and Cloud Asia Expo in Singapore in 2013 and 2014. He was also a keynote speaker at NOORIC2013 at Taiba University in Saudi Arabia, IMAN Conference 2014 in Amman, Jordan, and CITSM Conference in 2014 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Recently, he participated in discussions on Islamization of Knowledge in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand.
He won the Bronze Award for Animation titled “Al-Kahfi” and the Promising Award for “Al-Biruni” at the Islamic World Film Festival 2013. He has filed a patent for WiSeMantiQ Ontology and trademarks for WiSeMantiQ.
