Gombak, 2 November 2020 – IIUM Holdings Sdn. Bhd. has appointed Dr. Wafi Nazrin Dr. Abdul Hamid as Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) effective 1 November 2020. As GCEO he is tasked to further improve the performance of IIUM Holdings and its group of companies as well as overseeing the relationship building and networking between IIUM Holdings, the University, and the community at large.
An early graduate (1991) of the International Islamic University of Malaysia with a First Class Degree in Law, Dr. Wafi twice won British Chevening Scholarships for his Master of Laws from Cambridge University and Ph.D in Law from Southampton University. He also has an MBA in Applied Finance & Investment from UKM and a Post Graduate Diploma in European Union Competition Law from King’s College, London. He was an advocate and solicitor and a contributing author to the legal reference “ASEAN Competition Laws”. He won the Interlaw Corporate Counsel Award in 2004 and in 2010 was recognized by the International Law Office, New York as a leading anti-trust counsel.
He has considerable leadership experience in the maritime; oil and gas; aviation, automotive & manufacturing, construction/land development; and water industries in MISC Berhad, Petronas, Malaysia Airlines, UMW, and Pengurusan Aset Air Bhd. Apart from being in senior management in the said Government Linked Companies, he has been instrumental in the implementation of various high level and fast-track projects, and transformation initiatives. He has a strong track record in building stakeholder relationships and strengthening corporate governance. Currently Dr. Wafi is the Chairman of Talentcorp Bhd., a company wholly owned by the Ministry of Finance Inc. to strengthen the talent pipeline of Malaysia.
